Direct booking

A direct booking is a reservation a guest makes with the property itself (through its website, phone or reception) rather than through a third-party channel.

A direct booking is one that comes straight to the property, with no intermediary taking a commission. It can happen through the property’s own website and booking engine, by phone, by email or at reception. Direct bookings are valuable because the property keeps the full rate, owns the guest’s contact details, and controls the whole experience from first click to check-out. That makes upselling and repeat business easier. The trade-off is that the property has to generate the demand itself, through its website, SEO, email and reputation, rather than borrowing an OTA’s audience. Many accommodation businesses track their direct-versus-OTA mix as a core commercial metric and invest in a strong booking engine to lift it. For campgrounds, direct bookings are especially important because margins are thin and loyal, returning campers are the backbone of most sites.
