TSE (German fiscal device)

A TSE (Technische Sicherheitseinrichtung) is the certified technical security device German law requires cash registers to use so that recorded sales cannot be altered undetectably.

A TSE, or Technische Sicherheitseinrichtung, is a certified security module that German law requires electronic cash registers and point-of-sale systems to use. Every transaction is signed and logged by the TSE in a way that makes later tampering detectable, so recorded sales cannot be quietly deleted or changed — the measure is aimed at preventing till fraud. Receipts must show TSE data, and the signed records must be exportable for a tax audit in the prescribed format. The TSE can be a hardware element or a cloud-based service, but its use has been mandatory for electronic tills for several years. For a German campground, any on-site till — shop, restaurant, kiosk, reception payments — falls under this rule, so the point-of-sale system must be TSE-connected. It sits alongside GoBD, which governs how the resulting records are kept and made available.
