nDSG & DSGVO (data protection)

The DSGVO (the German name for the EU’s GDPR) and the nDSG, Switzerland’s revised data-protection act in force since September 2023, set the rules for handling personal data. They require a lawful basis for processing, transparency about what is collected and why, data minimisation and security, and rights for individuals to access, correct and delete their data. The two regimes are closely aligned, which helps businesses operating across Switzerland and the EU, though they are not identical. Any organisation that stores guest information must comply, and where and how that data is hosted matters. For campgrounds, this covers the guest details gathered for bookings, registration, tourist tax and marketing; practical consequences include clear privacy notices, careful consent for marketing, secure storage — often with a preference for data residency in Switzerland or the EU — and only collecting what is genuinely needed.
