RKSV (Registrierkassensicherheitsverordnung)
The Registrierkassensicherheitsverordnung (RKSV) is Austria's federal ordinance requiring every electronic cash register to use a certified signature unit, making each sale cryptographically tamper-evident.
RKSV, short for Registrierkassensicherheitsverordnung, is the Austrian federal ordinance that requires every electronic cash register to use a certified signature creation unit (Signaturerstellungseinheit, or SEE) to make recorded sales tamper-evident. The rule has been in force since 2016, when Austria rolled out cash-register security ahead of Germany's similar KassenSichV requirements. Under RKSV, each transaction is signed by the SEE and assigned a running encrypted counter, so the chain of sales cannot be broken or deleted without detection. Receipts must display a machine-readable data-matrix code containing the signed transaction data, and the register must be registered with the Austrian tax authority (FinanzOnline) before use. The records must be retained for seven years and be exportable in the prescribed RKSV data format for a tax audit. For an Austrian campground, RKSV applies to every electronic till on site (the camp shop, café, bar, kiosk and reception payments), so any point-of-sale system used in Austria must be RKSV-certified and registered with FinanzOnline before it can legally process sales.
